I have been a fan of soft pastels and pastel pencils for years, but for me, PanPastel® is a wonderful addition to them. The soft, powdery, paint-like way of working gives you so much freedom to build up color, blend, and create subtle transitions.

I enjoy using PanPastel® for portraits, animals, and still lifes, usually in combination with pastel pencils and pastel sticks. The different materials blend beautifully, especially on Pastelmat®. PanPastel® allows you to easily lay down large areas and create soft transitions, while pastel pencils and sticks let you add fine details afterwards. It is precisely that combination that I find so appealing.

My enthusiasm for PanPastel® also led me to write the PanPastel Workshop Book. Published in both Dutch and English, the book has since been used by artists all over the world. The book also gave rise to the Julia Woning PanPastel Starter Kit®, featuring a selection of basic colors that allow you to get started with PanPastel in a pleasant and accessible way. This starter kit has been available worldwide for the past five years.

Although the books are unfortunately no longer being reprinted, they can still be found at various art supply stores around the world that sell PanPastel®.

For me, PanPastel® is above all a medium that allows for wonderfully free and creative work. It offers a vast range of possibilities, and the combination with soft pastels, pastel pencils, and Pastelmat makes it a fantastic way for me to create art.
