Paintings
Ever since my illustration studies at the Willem de Kooning Academy, I have been telling stories through paint. I enjoy working in series, with each collection possessing its own unique atmosphere, color palette, and narrative. Over the years, my subjects have included Native Americans, jazz, landscapes, and portraits.
Color is the common thread running through all my work. I draw inspiration from nature, travel, and everyday life, constantly seeking new combinations of color, form, and texture. In addition to my independent work, I also create commissioned paintings.
Plump Ladies
My best-known series, *Dikke Dames* (Lovely Ladies), originated in 2008. Inspired by my illustration work, these colorful, cheerful paintings bring humor, warmth, and a sense of coziness into the home. The series grew into a successful collection of paintings, sculptures, and other art objects, quickly finding a special place in the hearts of a wide audience. The recognizable, voluminous, and faceless female figures allow everyone to project their own stories and memories onto them. Moreover, the *Dikke Dames* formed the basis for *Het enige echte Dikke Dames kleurboek voor volwassenen* (The One and Only *Dikke Dames* Coloring Book for Adults).
Cheerful Animals
In addition, the *Cheerful Animals* series emerged, centering on color, character, and a smile. Like the *Dikke Dames* (Plump Ladies), these paintings are cheerful, colorful, and intended to bring joy to people.
Nature
The *Nature* series emerged during the coronavirus period, bringing together birds, fish, flowers, and landscapes in a colorful fantasy world filled with tranquility, balance, and wonder.
Exhibitions
Since 1994, I have exhibited my work in galleries, at art fairs, and during art trails in the Netherlands and Belgium. My paintings have been displayed at events such as Kunst in Ootmarsum, the North Sea Jazz Festival, KunstEvent Ahoy Rotterdam, the ARA Art Fair, the Margriet Winterfair, and the 50PlusBeurs.
For many years, my work has been represented by various galleries, including Galerie Van Eijck (Rotterdam), Galerie Sous-Terre (Lithoijen), Galerie KanisKunst (Alkmaar), Galerie Bax (Sneek), and Galerie KunstKeuken (Valkenswaard).
