For years I have been drawing portraits with the classic pastel chalk and pastel pencils. Then I came across PanPastel® at first I thought it’s just pastels in a pan and that’s not surprising because it comes in a round pan. However, it is much more than that. When I wrote my first Techniques book, PanPastel had to be included. I think it’s a really beautiful product and really different to use than the classic pastelsticks. The questions I received in response to my book and at the various workshops and demonstrations meant that there really had to be a special book, dedicated to PanPastel®. And so it happened I created the book PanPastel® Workshop in Dutch in 2018 en the English version in 2021. My publisher BBNC-Musboeken described it beautifully on the back:
In this PanPastel® Workshop, artist Julia Woning will be your ultimate guide on your voyage of discovery with this fantastic material – she will guide you from start to finish and at every step of the process. It all starts with the right materials: colors, tools, working surfaces and techniques, along with a little basic knowledge. In this workshop, you will learn everything about the PanPastel® materials, what their properties and possibilities are and how to make them look their best on different surfaces, such as paper, PastelMat, or canvas.
Julia shows you how to use certain techniques and the right colour palette to create the most beautiful colouring pages, drawings and works of art. You will also learn to develop your own style by adding patterns, shadows and layers. Julia will also show you various mixed media and will also take you through a number of templates, stamps and ink.
- Lots of background information about materials and techniques.
- A perfect balance between instruction pages along with inspiring examples and spaces to practice your skills.
- Landscape format gives you plenty of scope for sketching and experimentation.
The book explores the basic information that you need for using PanPastel® Colors, whether you are using PanPastel® Colors for the first time, or still exploring the potential for this medium, it provides lots of helpful tips, techniques and tutorials to begin using PanPastel® for painting, drawing & mixed media.
